Beyoncé. What’s the Big Deal?

I am unashamedly sold out for Jesus Christ. I don’t sugar coat things. I don’t put on a show. I don’t attempt to act like I’m better than anyone. I just tell the truth. After all, we were commissioned to preach the gospel. Preach actually means to speak, talk, address, expound, deliver. God has done so much for me. How dare I sit down on the Truth!

When I speak out concerning things, I tend to receive responses – but not directly. Folks will post a status in opposition to what I’ve said. Instead of going tit for tat, I’m going to address it here.

Beyoncé performed at the 2017 Grammy Awards. I’m not going to dissect her performance. Truthfully, it doesn’t need to be dissected. She was honoring, paying homage, to her god. Now, if you roll that way, do you. But I’m going to speak on it. I’m going to put some truth on it because too many believers are being deceived.

Deceived? Isn’t that a strong word to use?

I say deceived because we are misled, misinformed. If you are a Christian, professing Jesus Christ to be Lord and savior of your life, then that means He really is Lord. He is your God. He is King. He is alpha and omega. He is the beginning and the end. In Him you live, move, and have your being. In Him, all things were made and all things are. And as a believer, you will have no other gods before Him. If you knew an artist was on stage paying homage to Satan, would you still support him/her? Honestly. Think about that. Instead of it being some god from Africa, but Satan, would you praise the performance? I don’t think you would. And if you would, then that’s a totally different topic and we’ll have to talk and pray offline.

The Lord says clearly to have no other gods before Him. If you read both books of Kings, you will see how the Lord came against the kings who opposed Him by worshipping idols. Solomon was David’s son, who became King of Israel and Judah. The Lord was very pleased with Solomon. He blessed him tremendously with wealth and wisdom. All the Lord commanded was that Solomon continue to walk in His way and keep his commandments. That’s it. However, Solomon had a thing for women. He married multiple women from different nations that worshipped idols, i.e. false gods. Now, we know what happens when a man gets distracted by a woman. King Solomon stopped thinking clearly and began to worship these gods as well. In 1 Kings 11, it states, “as Solomon grew old, his wives turned his heart after other gods, and his heart was not fully devoted to the LORD his God, as the heart of David his father had been. He followed Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, and Molek the detestable god of the Ammonites. So Solomon did evil in the eyes of the LORD; he did not follow the LORD completely, as David his father had done.”

Following after other gods was evil and caused him to not be fully devoted to the Lord. Saints, there is nothing new under the sun. Let’s not forget that we wrestle not against flesh and blood; that this thing is ALWAYS spiritual; that the enemy of your soul is out to drag you straight to the lake of fire with him for all eternity. So, if he can get you to start “honoring your ancestors” by worshipping these gods (idolatry), he already has you.

You can’t serve two masters. You will either hate one or love the other. You can’t love Jesus and Oshun. Oh, you say that you can? Jesus said, “If you love me, you’ll keep my commandments.” And his commandment is to have no other gods before him. He also said in Luke 11:23, “He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters.”

If you believe in these Indian and Nigerian goddesses that Beyoncé so boldly channeled, you are against Him because they are false. You shouldn’t even like the idea of it. Psalm 97:10 says, “Let those who love the LORD hate evil.” And we’ve already established that worshipping other gods is evil in God’s eyes.

But I’m not worshipping them. I just like her music.” And by liking her music, you are submitting yourself to the enemy. How? Does her music edify the Lord? Does it edify you, in the Lord? Does it bring glory to God? No, it brings glory to herself and her master; the one she has submitted herself to. You keep listening to and watching her. Your own beliefs will become dumbed down. Then, compromise will enter in. I know what I’m talking about. A few summers ago, a friend and I listened to Beyoncé (and other secular artists) every time we were together. We were so numb to the things of the Lord. We wanted to smoke. We wanted to drink. We just wanted to enjoy life and feel good. We were both mad at men and Beyoncé’s wisdom was the way to go. I mean, who wants that perfect love story anyway? Cliché… cliché…. (reference to one of her songs)

But back to my point: “But I’m not worshipping them. I just like her music.” This is a dangerous place to be in. We are ambassadors of Jesus Christ. We represent Him on this earth. We can’t support someone who boldly goes against our God! The Grammy Awards performance is proof enough. But just in case you need more:

1. She has openly mocked the Lord. She took a picture, posing in the place of Jesus:

2. Her lyrics disrespect the living Word: “I bathed in bleach and plugged my menses with pages from the holy book.” She stopped her period by putting pages from the Bible in her vagina??? (In the video, a picture of a Bible was shown as she said that.) And, you, as a Christian, see nothing wrong with that? Oh, ok.
3. Her music (ah, so many things wrong but I’ll just stick to the topic)… Her last album was filled with references to a number of African gods.

4. She is involved in the occult, which is demonic (another post… too much to explain on this one). She wears Baphomet, the foremost symbol of Satanism after the Church of Satan, as jewelry.

Hello somebody. Anybody!!! This woman does not believe in your God.

Let those who love the Lord hate evil.”

All of the above is evil in the eyes of God.

To answer the title question: the big deal is that she is a bold, blatant, representation of evil, mockery, and opposition to your (you, the believer) God. That’s the big deal.

I admonish all of us to pray for her and her family. Remember that this is all spiritual. She is still a soul. At the end of the day, we will die and open our eyes in either heaven or hell. The Lord said in Revelations 3:16, “I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew thee out of my mouth.” In Luke 11:23, the Lord tells us that if we aren’t gathering with him, we are against him. It really is a big deal. Our eternity is in jeopardy. Love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, soul, and mind. He wants it ALL. Not a piece. That one piece that you yield to the enemy could be just enough to steal your mind, kill your body, and destroy your soul.

There is a plethora of material out there that digs even deeper into what she is into. This is not based on that. About 6 years ago, I was excitedly watching a Beyoncé marathon on VH1 Soul when the Holy Spirit spoke to me as clear as day, “stop watching her.” I tried to disprove what I heard. But the more I tried to disprove it, the more I found. And the more my relationship with the Lord grew, the more my eyes were opened.

Amen. Well put. inpray that people take the blinders off of their eyes and see right for right and wrong for wrong. The last thing you want is to open your eyes in hell because you choose not to see what is right.

I don’t pay any attention to her much these days because to me, there just isn’t something right about a person who has a large following of “worshippers”. It’s just creepy to me. You’ve shed some little light on why I can’t get into her music (and many other secular music). Thanks for writing this.

If this doesn’t touch someone’s heart or open their eyes then they don’t want clarity. I’ve read so many posts similar in topic but I commend you for not attacking her the person but her spirit which is what’s under attack. I find that when I read or listen to others who engage in this conversation and in some cases argument that the person who’s listening only heard the attack on Beyonce the person. That in turn makes them defensive and feeling like they have to defend her talent. That’s not the issue and for me never has been. She’s talented but she’s torn. Not between good and evil, because clearly she’s chosen a side. She’s torn and beaten by Satan.
